I am a meteorologist and a former youth leader at church…I have a lot to say on both subjects…and then some
I was in Lowe's the other day, and the song "Against the Wind" by Bob
Seger came on. As I listened, I realized that there are parts of my
life where I wished I didn't know now what I didn't know then. The
reason I say this is that as a youth worker I try to tell the students
about my life how I wished that I didn't try and learn some the facts
of life the way I did and the way they are trying to learn.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t there for these pictures.

Just wanted to say “Hi” to some of our counterparts and let you know we’re thinking of you! We’re suffering from a little “spring fever” up here in the Great White North (as evident by the attached pics).
Wish we were there!

You’re Dune!
by Frank Herbert
You have control over a great wealth of resources, but no one wants to
let you have them. You’ve decided to try to defend yourself, but it may take eons before
you really get back what you feel you deserve. Meanwhile you have a cult-like following
of minions waiting for your life to progress. This would all be even more exciting if you
could just get the sand out of your eyes.

The other night the Boyne City Ski Team and the Charlevoix/East Jordan Ski Team had their Invitational. Kaleb won first in both GS and Slalom! I got video of some of the meet. I just got back from Shanty Creek/Schuss Mt. where he had another meet today. I’ll try to get the video up today or tomorrow. Enjoy!
Things always seem to get busy as of late. This time, besides the usual family things, our youth ministry helped to organize a youth conference in one of the churches the other day. I won’t go into the details of how I got into my schedule predicament, but I went from two midnights, to two days off, then a day shift, and then 8 hours later the beginning of my last four midnights.
However, while at the conference I was running the soundboard for the youth pastor break out session. I felt like I was back at a Youth Specialties convention. Only this time, I felt that I could actually contribute to the conversation. It recently dawned on me that I have been in youth ministry for 8 years as a volunteer. Anyway, at the end of the break out session, one youth worker felt that they were having trouble relating to the kids. They had only been volunteering for a couple of years. I shared my early experience, and it felt like they were encouraged.
The reason why this is important, is that in 2004, I was at the YS convention in Dallas, and while working my way through the prayer labyrinth, I felt that my direction in youth ministry would be to help the youth pastors who seem to get battered and burned out. I was reminded of this while I was reviewing the weekend in my mind. So I feel that I am on the right track with where I am going in life.
Kaleb had a great game on Tuesday, scoring a goal in a hard fought game with Cheboygan. Boyne City won 3-2. However, when he was taking the ball down field on a break away, he got tripped up and fell. Initially, he didn’t think much of it, but it was pretty sore the next day so I took him to the doctor. A small bone in his wrist looked funny on the x-ray, so they referred us to the orthopedics dude. He confirmed the diagnosis and now Kaleb is in a cast for 6 weeks.
He was having a great season too. The coach said this in the article:
“Our effort was superb and we moved the ball well. Sam Jabara and Kaleb McNamara had their best games ever. “
A major bummer.
I am now watching "Flame." The video for the 3 words of love in the
Hebrew language. I remember when I first got this one and watched it.
It was about the same time that Mary and I had started dating. I
realized that this is what I wanted and that the two of us would be
together. To paraphrase a line from the film, I realized that when I
was with her that I wanted to be with her right then, than be anywhere
else in the world. As we approach our second anniversary, I realize
that this still hasn't changed. In fact, I have been catching myself
being cheesy with her like when we were dating. I still love her more
than anything.
Currently, it is 330 am and I'm up. I am preparing myself for my
upcoming midnights. There are so many things going on in my life. Dad
once said that I went from 0 to 100 mph in 60 seconds. Well this day
is no different. However, as I watch the Nooma video "Rain," I
realize that as chaotic as my life is, it will settle, to a certain
extent. God will see me through this period of my life. "I love you
Buddy. We're going to make it. Dad knows the way home." I have had
times when I have questioned God, asking, "Where are you?" However,
this time I have been more aware of God's presence than any other time
in my life.
I guess it's those little winks that one gets from a grandparent,
who's thinking about you. In this case, there have been a series of
encouraging signs that I have been getting. A case in point, the Taize
daily Bible readings to the right. There have been several in the last
week or two that have been giving me encouragement, that God is
watching us and that we will be taken care of.
Tuesday night Kaleb had his second soccer game. It was at their old field at the Walloon Lake resort. There wasn’t much in the way of room on the side lines so I couldn’t get a lot of shots. The game ended up in a tie 0 to 0 even with double overtime! Boyne City really dominated the game in everything, but the score. This picture will get you to the set.
