The Daily reading from a podcast and a separate website that I read for Today (Jan. 29)…
Mark 4:21-25
Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Would you bring in a lamp to put it under a tub or under the bed? Surely you will put it on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to this.’
He also said to them, ‘Take notice of what you are hearing. The amount you measure out is the amount you will be given – and more besides; for the man who has will be given more; from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away.’
A statement in the podcast was, (paraphrasing here) Jesus would heal someone and then tell them to remain quiet about it, as if to hide it, but they never seemed to be able to do it. It was as if He was the living example of this passage. “Would you bring in a lamp to put it under a tub or under the bed? Surely you will put it on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light.” He could no more keep himself hidden because He was a light to the world.
Are you being a light? So if you tried to remain quiet about things that you do that would please God, would they be shown to the world anyway?
Petoskey News-Review – Sports – Prep skiing: Northmen fourth, fifth at T.C. Central Invitational
It was a day race this week, so we didn’t get to go. Kaleb finished fourth in Slalom and 5th in GS. This time he was up against bigger schools from TC, Cadillac, and Manistee.
Way to go Kaleb!
Every once i awhile I see things that seem pretty cool. Here is one, although I admit, I missed the better picture about 15 seconds earlier as I was driving home this morning. In this case the smoke from a chimney is going up until the gases and particles cool. The light wind just above the surface then push the particles downstream. At this point the temperature was -17 degrees F.
From the Petoskey News-Review:
Kaleb McNamara paced the Boyne boys as he finished second in GS and third in slalom.
After all the controversy of his first run of the slalom, he still managed to place 3rd! Very cool!
Love him or hate him, President Bush did some things that most people would have thought him impossible to do. Here’s one and it has gotten little press:
The information director at the UM sponsored Africa University has written an interesting article for UMNS with thoughts from some of the students about what an Obama presidency means for Africa. I had many differences with President Bush over the years, but I never quite understood why most of the people who hate him never gave him credit for what he did for Africa. During his time in office, he more than tripled humanitarian aid to the continent, and he made AIDS and HIV a huge priority. Tens of thousands (maybe more) of people are alive today because of his policies, and it would be good to see his detractors at least give him props for this.
I hope that President Obama can do more.
Mary beat me to posting the race results. So, I’ll send the traffic over there to see all of the details, including why we have no video. 🙁
I listen to a podcast, where the host can get a little conspiratorial at times. He claims that Obama, McCain, and Bush are all reading off of the same script provided by the same people that run the shadow government. Well, I don’t buy that, but when you see this, you have to wonder…
This is the ski meet we missed on Monday. I Twittered about it that day. The previous post was about his second meet.
High school boys’ skiing: Opener no smooth sailing for defending …
Petoskey News-Review, MI – Boyne City had a pair of individual medalists in Kaleb McNamara and Sterling Adgate. McNamara was eighth in GS, Adgate was 10th in slalom. … |
Mary and I didn’t get to see this meet either(even though it was across the street). However, Kaleb continues to do well in the skiing events.
Kaleb swept the meet in the Slalom and the GS. Here’s part of the story from the Traverse City Record-Eagle:
Kaleb McNamara swept the slalom and giant slalom as Boyne City captured a Lake Michigan Conference boys ski meet at Boyne Mountain. The Ramblers finished with 38 points. St. Francis was second with 63 and Harbor Springs third with 82.
McNamara won the slalom in 1:00.13. He was followed by Drake Doherty of Harbor Springs (1:00.87), Sterling Adgate of Boyne City (1:02.34), Keaden Hornyak of St. Francis (1:02.64) and John Moschovich of St. Francis (1:05.39).
McNamara edged Doherty by a second in the giant slalom (43.61 to 44.6). Boyne City’s Mike Cortwright was third (45.36). Stephen Siddall and Cole McCardel of St. Francis were fourth and fifth (45.53 and 45.64).
We have the schedule now and we found our camera! So I hope to get the picture and video online for the next meet that is at Boyne Mountain.
I’m glad the youth of America want the unvarnished truth:
And research suggests teens do want the awful truth: Three-quarters say they would like the media to talk more about the consequences of sex, according to a 2007 study by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.

I just hope that Hollywood would get the message and not send us more unrealistic stuff. I’m middle of the road on the series. It has good moments and statistics, but sometimes falls back on stereotypes for some of the dialog. However, it’s not bad.
